Intrusion

The sun sets on life,
Extinguishing that which is ours,
Awakening what lies beyond.

Its absence emboldens some and
Incurs in most trepidation;
Born of another time and another place.

Blackness swallows anyone venturing afar,
Its thick stillness enveloping
The mere presence of all
That dare venture therein.

Ashen neon lights flicker on and off,
Darkness pushed to the perimeter,
Waiting patiently, inevitably for someone
To presume to intrude upon it.
